20 Days, 20 Lessons: #8

I took the picture above at my school. The words written on the wall translate to, respectively, hard work, achievement, and noble character.

Anyone that I’ve talked to over the course of the past (almost) 9 months knows that I have a really hard time describing my experience here in a way that I feel satisfied. Depending on how long we’re talking, my go-to response (or some variation if we’re blessed with more time) has been, “Everyday is a new day. Lots of highs, lots of lows, but I’m learning a ton about the culture and myself, and for that I’m incredibly grateful.” Despite being an English Teaching Assistant, my time here has not been shaped by that which I spend in the classroom. Consequently, how I explain my thoughts and feelings are often reflective of that, and the following will give you a better idea as to why.
